In a aggressive display of ignorance and force a Rock Hill Sheriff’s deputy somehow felt threatened by a dog on a leash! So he killed it.
ROCK HILL — Alice Renee McGlone says her cats Rhett Butler and Tara will have to go on without Scarlett –– her 9-year-old Labrador retriever –– after a York County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed the dog when, he says, it charged him aggressively on Tuesday.
McGlone’s friend Ron Montana buried Scarlett on Wednesday afternoon in her backyard, under a tree, on Clara Street in Rock Hill. Montana and McGlone say they’re outraged that the deputy used lethal force.
But, sheriff’s officials say the deputy had no choice but to protect himself from the dog.
“He hated to have done what he did but we teach our officers that they need to protect themselves in all situations,” said Capt. Allen Brandon. “It’s regrettable what happened.”
The above line in bold should serve as a warning to all. An officer need only to feel threatened, not actually be threatened, and they will be justified in “protecting themselves in all situations;” even if it means killing a leashed dog, an innocent old man, or a mentally challenged homeless person.
The police were responding to a call that McGlone’s daughter had made because she was worried about her mother after not hearing from her for several days. This is the second story in two days in which the police were called for help and ended up causing harm.
There is a lesson to be learned here. The police are not there to provide a service for you, they are not there to protect you; they are there to enforce arbitrary laws and collect revenue for the state.
Next time you think about calling 9-1-1 realize that the “help” you think you might be getting could turn into a more dangerous situation upon the arrival of thugs with guns.
